Mission
The mission of the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) is to work in collaboration with the president, provost, vice president, deans and university community identifying opportunities to achieve our goal to enhance Tulane's transformation into a higher education institution that embraces and values diversity. The Office's work will focus on planning, developing, implementing, and the continual evaluation of comprehensive institutional diversity programs and university-wide human relation initiatives that will sustain the university's commitment to continue to diversify the faculty and staff at all levels, focusing particularly on minorities and women in areas where they are underrepresented.
OIE advocates a systems approach to diversity enhancement and management by:
-
Developing strategies that the University, colleges, and divisions can use to enhance responsibility and accountability for diversity management
-
Integrating diversity management into the University system through education, policies, practices, cultural change, and shared responsibility
-
Enhancing the University's diversity management capability

OIE will create value-added for Tulane by partnering with Tulane in strategic diversity planning. OIE plans to enhance its traditional duties of investigations and compliance, and develop and implement initiatives that support improving human relations in the workplace; employment opportunities and diversity education awareness programs; working with allies, advocacy and advisory groups; more effective ways of informally resolving employment opportunities workplace disputes; opportunities for managers and supervisors to enhance their skills to ensure success with employment opportunities issues; employee recruitment and outreach; community involvement with diverse groups.
